Natalie Amar, recipient of an ICCS Certificate of Merit in 2002-2003


As the Cultural and Academic Affairs Officer at the Embassy of Canada in Tel Aviv, Israel, Natalie Amar is responsible for the liaison with the Israel Association for Canadian Studies and the Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In this capacity she has played a major role in the advancement and development of Canadian Studies in Israel.

Natalie is a consummate professional who combines intelligence, integrity, initiative and drive with a total commitment to Canada and to Canadian Studies. She is able to impart this commitment to all the Embassy staff, from Ambassador down through the ranks, so that at every level staff regard Canadian Studies as a primary and central part of their work. The resulting partnership between the Embassy and the Israel Association for Canadian Studies and the Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies has made Canadian Studies in Israel a model for academic and cultural success.

Natalie has often gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that Canadian Studies, a pillar of the Government of Canada’s Foreign Policy at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, has its rightful place in the Israeli academic scene.

Natalie is a charming person with a wonderful combination of enthusiasm and responsibility and serves as a great champion of the study and love of Canada. Her friends and colleagues in the Israel Association of Canadian Studies are proud of the accomplishments of Natalie Amar and are appreciative of her leadership in Canadian Studies.
